Think about the drying stage
During spinning, the drum turns quickly to remove water from laundry. This is different from drying with heated air. A higher permitted spin speed can leave less residual moisture, changing the job that follows. It does not automatically make a wet garment ready to put in a cupboard.
Consider where your washing goes next. With an airer, available space and ventilation matter. With a tumble dryer, the starting moisture level can affect the time required. Compare spin speed in the context of this whole routine instead of treating it as a standalone quality score for the washing machine.
The maximum is not universal
A machine advertising a high maximum will not use it on every programme. Wool, delicate fabrics and particular garments may require a lower setting. Check both the programme table and the care label. Do not deliberately choose an unsuitable wash cycle simply to gain access to the highest spin speed.
Load distribution matters too. One heavy wet item may create an imbalance, prompting the machine to redistribute the load or adjust spinning. A specification therefore cannot predict exactly what will happen with every basket of washing. Follow the loading instructions rather than forcing the issue by adding an arbitrary heavy wet item or repeatedly restarting a problematic cycle.
Noise, creasing and controls
Spinning is often a conspicuous part of the wash. Where figures are available, compare noise information for the same operating stage. A correctly levelled and firmly installed machine can behave differently from a poorly positioned one. Follow installation instructions, including removal of transport restraints; extra speed cannot fix an unstable installation.
Check that reducing the speed is straightforward and that the setting remains available with your preferred programme. For some clothes, gentler treatment matters more than removing the greatest possible amount of water. Clear controls let you make that choice for each load. The useful purchasing criterion is a suitable range with appropriate programmes, rather than simply the largest revolutions-per-minute number.
