A different arrangement
A steam generator places a water reservoir in a separate base connected to the iron by a hose. This changes not only how much water is available but also what must sit on or beside the ironing board. Measure the base and check whether your board or separate support is suitable for it.
For a few quick garments, setting out a larger system can add work. Someone ironing for a longer uninterrupted period may benefit from fewer water stops. Consider both the frequency and length of sessions. One large weekly pile and a single shirt every morning are not equivalent requirements, even if the total number of garments is similar.
The iron and its hose
An iron without a large built-in tank can feel different from a conventional model. Assess the complete movement, including resistance from the connecting hose. Check whether you can reach every part of the board without pulling the base along. Notice the position of the steam control and the resting arrangement for the hot iron.
When comparing steam figures, distinguish continuous delivery from a brief boost. A high peak number does not describe the entire session. The appropriate setting also depends on the textile. A steam generator does not make an item suitable for ironing if its care label prohibits that treatment. The garment instructions remain the starting point.
Filling, scale and cooling
Read how and when the tank should be refilled. Some designs have removable containers; others use a different arrangement. Follow instructions concerning heat and pressure. Never assume a cap can safely be opened just because it resembles the lid on a familiar water container.
Check the prescribed scale-removal process and any recurring replacement parts. Storage follows too: base, hose, cable and iron need to cool and be put away without damaging bends. A carrying lock can help, but establish its intended use. The meaningful buying question is whether the system organises your normal ironing more comfortably. Extra capacity without a suitable place for the base can simply introduce a new inconvenience.
