Capacity is not a count of phone charges
The milliamp-hour figure on a power bank is usually stated for its internal cells. Comparing it directly with a phone battery's figure can be misleading when the reference voltages differ and conversion losses are ignored. If watt-hours are supplied, they offer a clearer energy figure, but they still do not promise that all stored energy reaches the phone.
Think in terms of your routine: topping up during a commute, maintaining navigation for a trip or charging several devices. A larger battery means more bulk and weight. If you leave it at home because it is uncomfortable to carry, its headline capacity has little practical value.
Read the output table
Check which charging methods and output profiles are supported by the power bank and the device. A high-capacity pack can still charge slowly if its output does not match what the device accepts. Look separately at each port and at the limits when more than one is used. Total capacity is not total simultaneous power.
The cable is part of the connection. Confirm that it supports the required power and that its connectors suit both ends. A built-in cable is convenient but also a component to inspect for damage and replacement options. Do not assume that a USB-C socket is both an input and an output without reading its label or instructions.
Plan how the pack gets recharged
Input capability affects how long the power bank takes to refill. Check what wall charger is needed and whether one is included. If you charge the pack overnight, the requirements may differ from needing a quick refill between journeys. Pass-through charging should be used only where the maker explicitly supports the intended arrangement.
For air travel, check the current airline and destination requirements for spare lithium batteries and the marking on the actual pack before departure. Do not use a shopping article as a permanent statement of travel rules. Keep the product's energy label readable. Choose a power bank whose capacity, output and recharge routine all fit the day you are planning, rather than selecting the largest number in the search results.
