What actually moves across the floor?
The word mopping covers quite different designs. A basic robot drags a damp cloth; another rotates or agitates its pads. Some docks wash the pads between sections of a cleaning run. Compare the mechanism and the jobs left for you, rather than simply checking for a mop symbol on the box.
Loose debris needs attention before moisture spreads it around. Find out whether the robot can vacuum first and mop afterwards, or performs both tasks together. With interchangeable reservoirs, you may have to swap a component yourself. That can suit a weekly routine perfectly well but may be less suitable for scheduled cleaning when nobody is home.
Hard floors and rugs
Confirm that your flooring tolerates the intended wet-cleaning method. Its supplier's care instructions take priority, particularly for timber, laminate and vulnerable joints. Do not automatically increase the water setting because a mark is stubborn. Dried or greasy spills may need a targeted manual clean before the robot starts its normal pass.
Think about rugs too. A pad that lifts does not necessarily rise far enough above deep pile. Ask about the actual lifting clearance and compare it with the rug. A separate mopping zone, or temporarily removing a mat, can be a more dependable arrangement than relying on a broad carpet-detection claim.
The water still needs managing
After a run there is work to do: emptying dirty water, replenishing clean water and caring for pads. Even a self-cleaning station has surfaces and filters requiring attention. Read the instructions for recurring tasks. The dock may fit beneath a cupboard, but its tanks must still come out without awkward tipping or spills.
Use only cleaning fluids approved for that system. More foam does not establish better cleaning and may interfere with the water circuit. Avoid leaving dirty pads damp in an enclosed space for long periods. A robot mop is most appealing when it can keep up with frequent light soiling. It cannot be assumed to handle every sauce spill, corner or skirting edge as effectively as the unobstructed central floor without preparation.
