Size is a starting point
The tips supplied with in-ear earphones are alternatives to try, not a ranking from basic to better. Start with the manufacturer's fitting instructions and change one side at a time. Your two ears need not use the same size. A tip that stays in place should not need to be forced deeper to make it feel secure.
Listen at a comfortable level while checking whether the earphone remains seated as you move your jaw or turn your head. Do not treat stronger bass alone as proof of a comfortable fit. A seal can affect sound, while pressure and the shape of the earphone body remain separate reasons a particular model may not suit you.
Check the attachment before changing brands
Replacement tips need to match the earphone's nozzle and attachment design. Diameter alone may not describe the connection, especially when the maker uses a particular mounting shape. Look for an explicit model match. A tip that can be pushed on but does not lock or sit as intended is not a confirmed compatible replacement.
The charging case introduces another limit. Larger or differently shaped tips may prevent the lid closing or stop the earphones reaching their contacts. Check the case fit after changing tips and confirm that charging begins. Avoid forcing the lid shut to accommodate an accessory that changes the dimensions.
Foam and silicone need different attention
Materials can feel different, but neither guarantees comfort for every ear. Follow the instructions for inserting, removing and cleaning the chosen tip. Some foam designs require a particular preparation before insertion and should not be washed like silicone. Replacement frequency depends on condition and the manufacturer's advice, not a universal calendar rule.
An app-based seal test, where supported, can help identify a poor acoustic seal. It does not decide whether the earphones remain comfortable through your normal listening session. Try them within the seller's hygiene and return conditions before buying extra accessories. If the body presses against your ear regardless of tip size, another earphone shape may be more useful than a growing collection of tips.
