How large is your cup?
A ten-cup claim may mean something different from ten large mugs. Find the reservoir volume in litres and compare it with your usual vessels. Consider whether you normally brew a small quantity or a full pot. A generous maximum matters less if measuring a small batch is awkward.
View the water markings from the side that will face you on the counter. A window hidden against a cupboard may be difficult to read. Check whether the reservoir is removable or filled using the jug. Its opening should remain accessible without requiring the machine to be dragged past other equipment for every brew.
A jug suited to your pace
A glass jug on a hotplate and an insulated jug are different solutions. A flask retains heat within the vessel; a hotplate adds heat while its function remains active. Ask how long that function operates and whether it can be stopped. Choose according to how quickly the coffee is normally consumed.
Where possible, handle the empty jug and its lid. Can the final portion be poured without an awkward wrist movement? Does it locate securely and leave its handle accessible? Replacement jugs need to match the precise machine, so check availability before a vulnerable component becomes an unexpected expense or makes the whole appliance inconvenient to repair.
One jug across several drinking times
If the first and final cups are consumed at different times, decide how much coffee you actually want brewed together. A smaller second batch may fit your preference and schedule better than leaving a large pot standing. That is a use decision, not evidence that one jug construction always produces better coffee.
Check whether the jug can move to the table and what this means for keeping it warm. Equipment that works comfortably for one coffee drinker can create a different routine when several people arrive throughout the morning.
Filters and cleaning
Establish the required paper-filter size and whether a permanent filter is included. A reusable filter does not eliminate grounds disposal and cleaning. Check how the holder comes out and whether its parts are dishwasher-safe under the instructions. A drip-stop feature can help, but is not permission to leave the jug absent for a prolonged period during brewing.
Include descaling in the comparison. A display reminder does not replace the correct method. Follow the prescribed products and rinsing process. A suitable filter machine brews your usual quantity using accessible parts and a comfortable jug. Additional programming functions become valuable only when they serve that actual routine.
